Using social media to enhance student experience

A Guardian Higher Education Network seminar.

It's widely accepted that, as tuition fees rise so too will student expectations of the higher education experience. But with budgets staying the same, how can HEIs enhance student experience - in teaching and learning, recruitment and internal communications - without stretching already limited funds?

Some commentators feel social media could be an effective and low-cost way to bridge this gap. At the same time, social platforms are increasingly becoming an integral part of the teaching experience too, as academic staff use various tools to boost student engagement.

Bringing together two concurrent issues in higher education; the role of social technology and the increasing importance of student experience, this seminar will explore best practice in the areas where these issues meet and highlight the techniques and strategies you can put into practice.

This intensive and fast-paced seminar will finish with a networking lunch.

Benefits of the seminar:

  • Learn about the latest social technologies and platforms being used in HE
  • Explore the benefits and costs of using digital technology in HE
  • Hear practical examples of how to use social media in your own work
  • Network with your peers and find out how they are using social media
  • Discuss case-studies, best practice and get feedback on your own strategies

  • HE communications and marketing staff
  • Student recruitment staff
